Workshop Play Viewings; New Play Staged Reading

As part of Theatre BC’s Mainstage 2018 in Vernon, our Workshop Play Director’s Lab features two public performances of the play – before and after snapshots of the production.

“Mary’s Wedding” written by Stephen Massicotte and produced by Stage North from the Peace River Zone was randomly selected as this year’s Workshop Play from  a number of candidates. Instructor Andrew McIlroy will work intensively with the cast and production team over a three-day period, along with Director’s Lab participants, starting Saturday, June 30.

The public is invited to view the before performance on June 30 at 2:00 pm at Powerhouse Theatre (2901 35th Avenue, Vernon, BC – 250-542-6194) for a drop-in cost of $10.00. Once the play is re-worked, it will be re-mounted for a public performance at 2:00 pm on July 2, again at Powerhouse Theatre for a drop-in fee of $10.00.

This year’s winner of Theatre BC’s National Playwriting Competition in the Full-Length play category, Cathie Young, will be in attendance as part of the New Play Workshop. Cathie’s play “Port Moody Confidential – Glimpses” is being workshopped over three days by Kathryn Shaw starting on July 4. The workshop will culminate in a public staged reading of the script at 1:45 pm on Friday, July 6 at Powerhouse Theatre. You are welcome to attend for a $10 drop-in fee.
