North Island Zone 2017 Festival RESULTS

Adjudicator Andrew McIlroy was presented with many high-calibre productions and fine performances during the week of theatre May 14 – 20 at the Sid Williams Theatre in Courtenay. One production stood out above all others: The Drawer Boy by Michael Healey, presented by Festival host club Courtenay Little Theatre, will now go forward to represent the North Island Zone at Theatre BC’s MAINSTAGE, the drama festival which encompasses winning groups from throughout British Columbia, to be held this year in Vernon, June 30-July 8, 2017 and will perform on Thursday, July 6.

North Island Zone Award

2017 Donna Lamb Recognition Award:
Peter Wienold, who has been on the executive of Portal Players Dramatic Society in Port Alberni since 2003 in many positions, including more than one stint as President. In 2010 he was awarded the club’s Doreen Anderson Volunteer of the Year Award.

Peter was NIZ chair from 2005 to 2008, when he was elected to the Theatre BC Executive Committee as Vice-President. He has served on that committee for nearly 10 years, and is currently Theatre BC’s President. He continues to be active in his home club as chair of the Artistic Direction Committee, a director, actor & producer; and on the NIZ executive as past-chair.

 

The winning play, The Drawer Boy will represent the North Island Zone on Thursday, July 6 at Theatre BC’s annual MAINSTAGE in Vernon, June 30-July 8, 2017.
